OwnersBox Deposit 2.0

The aim of this task was to develop a flexible deposit processing system for OwnersBox, a daily fantasy sports platform. This is an improvement of the initially built payment feature. The goal was to create a system that offers users greater flexibility, ease of use, and security when depositing and withdrawing funds. This initiative aimed to address the evolving needs of our customers, support business growth, and maintain competitiveness in the market.

Approach and Solutions

So, Deposit 2.0 was a big one. Basically, we needed to fix some real headaches users were having with depositing and bring things up to speed. My goal was to make it smooth, easy, and, you know, actually work for people.

First thing I did was dive deep into what everyone else was doing. We needed to know what users expected, what the competition was offering, and make sure we weren't falling behind. Plus, we had to remember we've got users in the US and Canada, so that meant making sure everything worked for both, like debit withdrawals and gift card deposits.

We already had a design system, which was great. It meant we could keep things looking and feeling familiar. I just focused on making those deposit and withdrawal flows super simple. And, because we were using Fiserv for online deposits, I made sure that integration was seamless.

Security was a major thing, too. Nobody wants to worry about their money. I worked closely with the engineers to get 2FA and code verification in place.

Honestly, the best part was working with everyone – product managers, engineers, support. I was constantly asking for feedback, getting their thoughts, and making tweaks. It wasn't just about what I thought was best; it was about making sure everyone was happy, and most importantly, that users got a payment system they could rely on

Impact and Learnings: What I took away

Honestly, this whole Deposit 2.0 thing was a massive learning curve, but super rewarding. First off, it really hit home how much users just want things to be easy. Giving them different ways to deposit money into their account, and making the whole process smooth? That made a real difference in how happy they were.

Then, there's security. Money's a sensitive topic, right? Seeing how much people trusted us once we beefed up security, that was huge. It's not just tech, it's about making people feel safe.

We also had to think big picture. This system needs to grow with us, handle more and more as we expand. That's where the flexibility we built in really pays off.

And man, I can't stress enough how important it was to work with everyone. UX, engineers, compliance – we were all in it together. That's the only way it works, really.

Finally, it's about not being afraid to tweak and improve. We kept testing, getting feedback, and making changes. It's never perfect the first time, but that constant push to make it better? That's what makes a real impact.
